LOCALGOVERNMENT

Dive into the vibrant world of local governance in Western Australia, a realm that touches the lives of citizens every day in the most intimate and direct ways. With a grand total of 137 local governments currently operating in the state, each district boasts its own unique administration.  Mandurah's council's responsibilities extend far beyond basic administrative tasks, delving into the heart of community life. It raises revenue through rates, fees, and charges for services, while also receiving grants from both State and Commonwealth governments. These funds are meticulously managed and spent to enhance the quality of life for the residents of Mandurah.

City of Mandurah

The Coastal Ward is the largest and arguably most dynamic ward in the Mandurah City Council!  Can you imagine the variety of landscapes this ward encompasses? From the bustling cityscape of Erskine to the serene beauty of Lake Clifton, the Coastal Ward is a microcosm of Western Australia's stunning diversity.

The role of a Councillor, as outlined in section 2.10 of the Act, encompasses the following responsibilities:

  • Planning: Professionals planning the city's future. Local planning schemes, strategies, structure plans - they manage it all
  • Public Works: The council orchestrates the creation and maintenance of recreation areas, parks, gardens, reserves, and facilities for sporting and community groups.

  • Vehicle Services: Ensuring that every vehicle on Mandurah's roads is safe and compliant with regulations.
  • Public Art: Imagine a cityscape adorned with dynamic public art that celebrates and enhances Mandurah's unique story and culture. Vibrant colours and bold designs bring the city to life.
