In a heart-wrenching incident off the waters of Dawesville, a young man's kayaking adventure turned tragic. Dawesville, known for its breathtaking views and thrilling water sports opportunities, was reminded of the ocean's unforgiving nature when a kayaker in his 20s lost his life in a harrowing turn of events.

On Sunday afternoon, two kayakers set out to explore about 1.3 nautical miles (2.4km) off the coast. The adventure took a dire turn when one of the kayakers became unresponsive in the water while diving. Thankfully, an EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) was activated promptly. This crucial act allowed the Marine Rescue vessel and the RAC rescue helicopter to pinpoint the exact location of the distressed kayaker, showing the vital importance of carrying safety equipment during such expeditions.

Despite the swift response and the valiant efforts of the rescue team, who provided emergency first aid, the young man could not be revived. The community of Dawesville is left mourning the loss of a life too young.

This tragedy underscores the importance of being prepared for emergencies, including the use of life-saving devices like EPIRBs, which can make the difference between life and death.
