Summer’s Coming: Preparing for Tourist Season

Summer’s almost here and Dawesville is gearing up for tourist season. Learn how locals can prepare for busier roads, packed shops & beachside chaos.

As the weather warms and the days stretch longer, Dawesy locals know what’s coming: the annual influx of tourists, city slickers, and visiting family. Summer brings sunshine, surf, and a whole lot more people. It’s a season of opportunity and occasional chaos, and a little preparation can go a long way.

Busier Roads and Amenities

Expect heavier traffic on local roads, especially near beaches, boat ramps, and the few shops we’ve got. The service station will be pumping, the car park will be packed, and the corner store might feel like a city supermarket on a Saturday morning. Patience is key, plan ahead, shop early, and give yourself extra time to get around.

City Slickers and Environmental Respect

Not every visitor understands the rhythm of country life. Some may not know, or care, about respecting our environment and infrastructure. Locals can help by modelling good behaviour: pick up rubbish, stick to designated tracks, and gently educate when needed. A friendly reminder can go further than frustration.

More Kids, More Noise - Not More Trouble

With school holidays in full swing, there’ll be more kids on the streets, at the beach, and around the shops. That doesn’t mean they’re bad kids, it just means they’re out and about. Keep an eye out, slow down when driving, and remember that summer is their time too.

Boat Ramps, Beaches, and 4WD Etiquette

Boat ramps will be busier than usual, with early risers and late cruisers all vying for space. 4WDs will hit the sand alongside fishermen and families picnicking. Courtesy matters, give space, follow signage, and avoid blocking access. If you’re new to beach driving, ask a local or check the tide charts before heading out.

Family Visits and Parking Woes

Summer also means family visits, which often come with extra cars and creative parking. It’s part of the season, grin and bear it, or set some ground rules early. If you’ve got space to spare, offer it up. If not, a polite note or a quick chat can help avoid driveway dramas.

Tips for a Smooth Season

  • Beat the rush and stock up before the weekend surge.
  • Be beach smart: Respect signage, tides, and shared spaces.
  • Lead by example: Show visitors how we care for our patch.
  • Stay calm: A little patience goes a long way when things get busy.
  • Support local: Our few shops will be working hard—kindness counts.

Tourist season is part of life out here. It brings energy, stories, and sometimes a bit of mess. But with a bit of planning and a lot of local spirit, Dawesville can shine through it all. Let’s welcome the season with open arms, and maybe a few extra bins.
