Dawesville Community Centre Project Update
The Dawesville Community Centre is set to become the heart of our local community, offering versatile facilities, energy-efficient designs, and a welcoming space for community activities.
The Dawesville Community Centre is poised to become a cornerstone of community interaction and development in Mandurah’s southern regions. Located at the intersection of Dandaragan Drive and Woodstock Avenue, the centre promises to offer a range of facilities designed to meet the diverse needs of the growing local populace.
Community-Driven Funding
The project is being funded through a robust partnership between the Department of Primary Industries, contributing $6.2 million, and Lotterywest, providing an additional $2.65 million. This financial backing underscores a strong commitment to fostering community growth and enhancing local infrastructure.
Versatile Facilities for Diverse Needs
At the heart of the Dawesville Community Centre is a multi-functional hall space designed to cater to various events. The hall can be hired as one large venue or divided into two smaller halls using an acoustic wall. This flexibility allows for a wide range of uses, from private functions to community group meetings. The facility includes a kitchen equipped with food heating services, refrigeration, and versatile workspace to support event catering needs.
Meeting Rooms and Office Spaces
The centre will house multiple community meeting spaces available for hire. These rooms are designed to accommodate meetings and smaller gatherings, fostering a collaborative environment for local organizations. Additionally, the centre offers three office spaces and a potential reception area, available for hire with basic furnishings and internet access, providing a practical solution for small businesses and community groups.
Children's Area and Play Spaces
Recognizing the importance of family-friendly facilities, the centre includes a dedicated children's area. This space is designed to accommodate activities such as playgroups, featuring storage, kitchenette space, and various play elements. The inclusion of such facilities aims to support family-oriented activities and encourage engagement from families in the community.
Energy Efficiency and Sustainability
The Dawesville Community Centre is designed with sustainability in mind. The building incorporates passive and active design principles to achieve a 5 Star Green Star rating. Features such as a central light well, natural ventilation, and a 30KW photovoltaic system highlight the centre’s commitment to energy efficiency. Sustainable materials and finishes have been chosen to promote a healthy indoor environment, ensuring both durability and ease of maintenance.
Safety and Security Measures
Safety is a priority at the Dawesville Community Centre. The facility will be equipped with an integrated CCTV system and secure entry and exit points. High-quality lighting will enhance security both within the centre and in the surrounding precinct. These measures are designed to ensure a safe environment for all visitors and users of the facility.
Parking and Accessibility
A dedicated parking area will be available for users of the community centre, including seven standard bays, two universally accessible bays, and two electric vehicle charging stations. Public transport users can check the Transperth website for routes that stop near the facility, ensuring accessibility for all community members.
Community Activities and Engagement
The Dawesville Community Centre will serve as a hub for a variety of City Services and community activities. Initial offerings are expected to include arts classes, senior and youth pop-up activities, and library programs. The City of Mandurah is committed to collaborating with local groups to develop initiatives that align with the Place Enrichment Strategy 2023-2028, ensuring the centre remains an active and engaging part of the community.
Projected Opening and Community Impact
The Dawesville Community Centre is on track to open by mid 2025, offering a new venue for community engagement and events. As the population in the area is expected to double by 2036, the centre will play a crucial role in supporting the region’s growing needs. The project represents a significant investment in the community’s future, fostering a sense of pride and belonging among residents.
