Dawesville Community Centre Nearing Completion
The City of Mandurah announced the new Dawesville Community Centre is nearly completed, providing the local community with a modern and versatile venue for meetups, workshops, conferences, etc.
Identified as a key need in the City of Mandurah's Social Infrastructure Plan, the new community centre comes at a time when the population of Dawesville is expected to double to around 15,000 people by 2036. Over the past few years, the City has worked closely with local residents to develop a comprehensive concept plan for the facility, securing the final component of funding in January 2024.
The Dawesville Community Centre is being built on the corner of Dandaragan Drive and Woodstock Avenue and has reached several significant milestones throughout its development. In May 2022, Bollig Design Group, renowned for their work on other standout facilities such as the Lakelands Shared Sports Facility and the Falcon Library and Community Centre, was awarded the tender for the detailed planning and design of the centre. By December 2023, Mandurah Council had endorsed the construction tender from Geared Construction Pty Ltd to bring the project to life.
State-of-the-Art Facility
This facility boasts a range of features designed to cater to the needs of the community. These include a main hall with a stage, storerooms, universally accessible toilets, wet and dry multi-use activity rooms, a kitchen, office space, sound-insulated meeting rooms, landscaping, and a play area. Additionally, there will be an external playground and a public art installation to enhance the centre's appeal.
The construction of the new facility is made possible through a $2.65 million Lotterywest grant and a $6.2 million financial contribution from the State Government. The City of Mandurah is responsible for managing the project and the future operations of the facility. Recent updates indicate that the Centre has now reached the lock-up stage, with the interior fit-out well underway.
The interior fit-out has seen significant progress, with internal ceilings lined with plasterboard, external cladding installed, and windows and doors fitted. The first round of electrical work is also nearing completion, as the Centre tracks towards its anticipated opening in mid-2025.
Throughout the construction process, several milestones have been achieved. Internal walls have been lined with plasterboard, flooring has been polished in the centre lobby, and external cladding has been installed. The construction team is now focussing on installing windows and completing mechanical and electrical installations.
Community Spaces
The Dawesville Community Centre is set to become a central and modern hub for locals and community groups in Mandurah's southern regions. With its array of facilities and amenities, the Centre will provide a versatile space for residents to connect, work, and play. The City's ongoing commitment to this project highlights the importance of providing accessible and functional community spaces to support the growing population.
The need for the Dawesville Community Centre was initially identified in the City of Mandurah's Social Infrastructure Plan. The multi-use facility is designed to offer a contemporary space for Dawesville residents to engage in various activities and events. As construction progresses, the community is eagerly anticipating the Centre's completion, which is on track for mid-2025.
