Dawesville Community Centre
Dawesville's community hub is being recreated into an eco-friendly, state-of-the-art Community Centre. Experience the rebirth of community spirit in Dawesville!
For over a decade, Dawesville residents have been yearning for a multi-purpose centre. There has definitely been a need for 10 years or more, as the population has really soared in Dawesville.
After years on the drawing board, this project has finally found its momentum. The Mandurah Council has awarded the tender to Geared Construction, who will construct this $6.2 million facility1. But that's not all! The State Government has also stepped in, announcing an additional funding of $3.2 million.
A Ray of Hope for the Community
The journey to the community centre has been challenging for many Dawesville residents. Currently, a majority of services require travel to central Mandurah, a commute that can take up to an hour by bus. The community centre is set to change this, bringing necessary services closer to home, and thereby reducing travel time and cost.
An Anticipated Boon for All Ages
According to forecasts, the population of Dawesville is set to swell by an impressive 49% to 13,600 by 2036. Notably, Dawesville boasts the second highest percentage of school-age children in Mandurah and is predicted to see significant growth among 0-4 years old, 5-14 year olds, 25-44 year olds and 45-64 year olds. The proposed community centre, thus, aims to cater to this diverse demographic, ensuring that services and activities for all age groups are readily available.
With a total investment of over $9.4 million, this centre is set to redefine community engagement in Dawesville. Can you envision it? A sprawling 1200sqm facility, complete with a playground and car park. It's not just a building; it's a testament to the power of community spirit.
A Cornucopia of Facilities
The concept design, which has already received a thumbs-up from the local community, features a large community hall with a sprung floor, perfect for various events and performances. It also includes space for outreach service delivery, co-working space for local enterprise, areas dedicated to before and after school programs, playgroups, music and performance arts, as well as program spaces for arts, crafts, hobbies, and informal recreation.
Imagine sipping a cup of coffee in the large kitchen and café area or letting your children burn off some energy in the outdoor play area complete with a climbing wall. In addition, the centre also plans to host an outdoor amphitheatre, further enhancing its appeal.
But what truly sets this project apart is its focus on sustainability. Designed to achieve a five-star Green Star Rating by the Green Building Council of Australia, the Dawesville Community Centre is a nod to our commitment to the environment. To top it off, the council has allocated an additional $100,000 for battery storage, further cementing its eco-friendly credentials.
The Dawesville Community Centre is more than just a building—it's a beacon of hope for a community in need, a hub of activity waiting to be filled with laughter, learning, and life. It won't just ease stress and angst, but will also pave the way for a vibrant, inclusive, and thriving community.
