Bridge Extension Update

Bridge Extension Update

Get ready for some exciting developments as work continues on the duplication of the Mandurah Estuary Bridge!

While we have to grit our teeth through many stages of the development, we're encouraged to keep our eye on the prize.

Enhanced Connectivity:

The duplication of the Mandurah Estuary Bridge is set to improve connectivity in the region. With increased lanes and improved infrastructure, commuting should become smoother and more efficient. This upgrade will not only benefit locals but also boost tourism by making it easier for visitors to access the stunning destinations in the area.

Improved Safety:

Safety is a top priority when it comes to infrastructure projects, and the duplication of the Mandurah Estuary Bridge is no exception. By expanding the bridge and enhancing its design, safety measures will be significantly improved, ensuring a secure passage for all road users. This development underscores the commitment of the Cook Labor Government to creating a safer environment for everyone.

Economic Boost:

Infrastructure projects like the duplication of the Mandurah Estuary Bridge have far-reaching economic benefits. The construction phase alone will create jobs and stimulate local businesses, injecting vitality into the economy. Once completed, this upgraded bridge will facilitate smoother transportation of goods and services, further supporting economic growth in Western Australia.

Environmental Considerations:

In today's world, environmental sustainability is crucial in all development projects. The duplication of the Mandurah Estuary Bridge takes this into account by incorporating eco-friendly elements where possible. From reducing carbon emissions during construction to implementing green practices in design, this project demonstrates a commitment to preserving our natural surroundings while advancing infrastructure.

Community Impact:

Lastly, let's not forget about the impact on local communities. The duplication of the Mandurah Estuary Bridge will not only benefit commuters but also improve daily life for residents living nearby. Better access, enhanced safety measures, and reduced congestion all contribute to a more liveable community environment where people can thrive and enjoy their surroundings.

THE RECENT UPDATE

One of the key undertakings involves the removal of median strips on Mandurah Road. The purpose of this is to construct temporary crossovers, which will require traffic lane closures for safety reasons. However, to minimize disruptions, these activities will be conducted at night over a two-week period.

In the Waterside Drive area, geotechnical testing continues alongside noise modelling, vegetation, and topsoil clearing. The team recently set up a site office under the existing bridge on the eastern side to facilitate easier management of these tasks.

Over at Waterlily Drive, fill material is being imported and placed along the upper embankment of the bridge. This process is crucial for the construction of the concrete casting bed that will be used to build the bridge segments. Residents may experience noise and vibrations during drilling works to install settlement monitoring equipment sensors.

Similar activities are also taking place in the Seahawk Drive and Leisure Way/Egret Point Road areas. These include topsoil removal, site clean-up, ground preparation, geotechnical testing, and vegetation clearing.

With regard to noise walls, as the project reaches the 85 per cent design stage, the team will outline the extent and heights of these walls along Mandurah Road. Responding to privacy concerns, the construction of these walls has been prioritized and may be accelerated.

Additional earthworks and clearing will be required in all areas should more noise walls be needed.
