Channel 7 Mandurah Crab Fest

Channel 7 Mandurah Crab Fest

A Celebration of Crabs, Community, Culture & Blue Manna crabs.

The Channel 7 Mandurah Crab Fest is one of Western Australia’s most iconic and largest free events, drawing more than 100,000 people every year. Over a weekend, Mandurah comes alive with incredible food, live entertainment, and festivities celebrating the region’s beloved blue manna crab. This award-winning festival offers something for everyone, from family-friendly entertainment to headline music acts, and mouth-watering seafood-inspired dishes.

The Origins of a Community Tradition

The Crab Fest story begins as a continuation of Mandurah’s beloved Kanyana Carnival, which was a major local event for 30 years. Following its conclusion, the City of Mandurah envisioned a new festival to revitalise tourism and instil pride in the Mandurah community. With community input, the shared memory of crabbing became the focus, giving birth to the Channel 7 Mandurah Crab Fest in 1999.

Originally attended by just 3,000 people, the event has blossomed into a hallmark of WA’s tourism calendar, attracting visitors from all over the state and beyond. Showcasing Mandurah’s waterways, people, and laid-back alfresco lifestyle, Crab Fest has become synonymous with everything the region has to offer.

Mandurah’s Rich Culture and Growth

Mandurah has always been a key part of Western Australia’s story. Known for its beautiful beaches, rich waterways, and crabbing traditions, the city has evolved from a small seaside village into WA’s largest regional city. The Crab Fest celebrates this transformation while honouring Mandurah’s culture and heritage.

With its estuary twice the size of Sydney Harbour as a stunning backdrop, the festival brings together the best of Mandurah’s mandjoogoordap — meaning "meeting place of the heart" in the Noongar language—offering visitors a deeper connection to the land and community.

Award-Winning Excellence

The Channel 7 Mandurah Crab Fest is no ordinary event. It’s been celebrated as a Gold winner in the Major Festivals and Events category at the Perth Airport Western Australian Tourism Awards in both 2016 and 2017. It also claimed Bronze in the Major Festivals and Events category at the 2017 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards and was a finalist the following year.

Inducted into the Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards Hall of Fame in 2019, Crab Fest has cemented its status as a much-loved event for locals and visitors alike. These accolades recognise the dedication of both the Mandurah community and the City of Mandurah staff in delivering a festival that celebrates the best of the region.
