The Unfolding Story of Melros

The Unfolding Story of Melros

Melros! Once a tranquil parcel of land privately owned, now a pulsating community-in-the-making by Harcourts. Witness the journey from languid land sales to a bustling hub, ignited by strategic incentives.

Recently, I had an enlightening conversation with a representative from Harcourts, the company responsible for much of the development in our beloved Melros.

The Unfolding Story of Melros

Unlike the typical state land sell-offs you might have heard about, Melros has a unique tale to tell. This land, once privately owned, has been transforming through a series of sales over the past 20 odd years. Interestingly, land sales were initially slow, gaining momentum only when incentives were introduced. Then, just as things were picking up, Covid-19 hit, causing unexpected changes to the plans.

The Two Sides of Dandaragan

Melros Estate is flanked by Dandaragan Road, one side of which is owned by the Education Department. They're supposed to be partially responsible for the road and fully responsible for their land. But, here's a twist - they haven't contributed any funds towards the road or trimmings yet!

Nature's Marvels

Melros is also home to the magnificent Black Cockatoos. The presence of these birds led to extensive consultation and study before the Council signed off on the area's development. The bush on Karnak Parkway is being preserved as part of this solution.

The Future of Education

Wondering about schools? According to the stats, the construction of a high school might be a good five years away, if not more. The demographics and housing trends suggest a lower demand for a high school at the moment.

A Cleaner, Greener Melros

Plans are in motion to landscape the verge of the reserve joining Anaconda & Bailey. There are plans to plant more trees and enhance the reserve's overall appeal. After years of advocacy, a rubbish bin will finally be installed at the reserve.

Lessons in Heat Sinks & Sand Blow

I had an intriguing chat about heat sinks and sand blow, issues that I've been told will be addressed very soon. Future land clearing will take into account the local climate, ensuring a more sustainable approach.

Building a Better Tomorrow

There are plans to plant more trees in Melros Estate and ensure regular rubbish collection. The ringlock fencing at the Dandaragan section will also be removed soon, making way for new construction.

Your Voice Matters

An important takeaway from this meeting was that Harcourts might not be hearing your complaints due to some communication gaps with the Council.

Protecting Our Natural Treasures

The bush reserve nestled in the heart of Melros Estate will soon be cleaned up, signposted, and fenced off from cars and bikes, offering tranquil walking paths for all of us to enjoy.

This isn't just about building roads and houses - it's about building a community we can all call home.
