Warrungup Spring Reserve

Warrungup Spring Reserve

Imagine stepping into a world where nature whispers ancient tales, where the land breathes life, and every corner offers a story waiting to be discovered.

Welcome to Warrungup Spring Reserve, Dawesville - a sanctuary spanning approximately 32 hectares of pristine natural bushland and foreshore dedicated to preserving the heart and soul of our planet's beauty.

A Meeting of Waters and Worlds

At the heart of this enchanting reserve lies Warrungup Spring, a place of convergence where three streams unite to form a spring as vital as it is vibrant. Named 'Warrungup' by the local Aboriginal community, believed to mean 'wild water', this spring is a spectacle in the winter months, gushing forth with life-giving force. It's a site that has quenched the thirst of both Aboriginal peoples and white settlers alike, marking it as a cornerstone of shared history and survival.

A Tapestry of Life on Limestone

Perched upon a limestone formation, Warrungup Spring Reserve is a haven for a diverse array of flora and fauna. Among its inhabitants is the specially protected carpet python (Morilia spilota imbricata), a harmless yet majestic creature that thrives in close proximity to human activity. The reserve also provides sanctuary to the Quenda (Isoodon obesulus), a native species that calls this lush landscape home.

Springtime brings a burst of brilliant red as the City's floral emblem, Templetonia retusa or Cockies Tongue, comes into bloom, transforming the reserve into a vivid canvas of colour and life.

Tread Softly and Carry Only Memories

Winding through this natural paradise are walk trails that offer breathtaking views of the estuary. Visitors are encouraged to tread these paths with respect and mindfulness, observing the native fauna from a distance and capturing memories only through the lens of their cameras.

Join Hands in Preservation

Recognizing the invaluable treasure that Warrungup Spring Reserve represents, the City of Mandurah has embarked on a journey of rehabilitation and preservation, supported by the passionate Friends of Warrangup Spring Reserve volunteer group. This initiative is a call to arms for all who feel a connection to the earth and a desire to contribute to the conservation of this precious reserve.

Be a Guardian of Nature

In the spirit of stewardship, the community is reminded that if they encounter sick or injured wildlife within the reserve, help is but a phone call away. Local Rangers are available seven days a week, ready to provide assistance and ensure the well-being of our animal friends.
