What’s Really Happening with 4WD Access

Sorting Fact from Rumour:
What’s Really Happening with 4WD Access

Clarifies community concerns about 4WD access at Tim’s Thicket and White Hills, confirming no closures and outlining current coastal planning work.

Recent conversations about 4WD access at Tim’s Thicket & White Hills Beach have sparked concern among local residents, after misinformation circulated widely across the state. The rumours travelled far beyond the Peel region, prompting multiple responses from council members & the Mayor to clarify the situation. As uncertainty grew about whether access to these popular coastal areas was under threat, community leaders urged residents to check information before sharing, reinforcing the need for reassurance and transparency.

No Decision to Close 4WD Access

The City of Mandurah has confirmed that no decision has been made by Council to close 4WD access at either Tim’s Thicket or White Hills Beach. Any permanent change to access arrangements would be required to go through a formal Council process, including public consultation and opportunities for community input.

This clarification aims to address misinformation circulating within the community and to ensure residents understand that no closures are currently being considered or implemented.

Coastal Hazard Planning, Not Beach Closures

The work currently underway relates to the City’s ongoing Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Planning (CHRMAP). This program focuses on identifying long-term risks along Mandurah’s coastline and developing strategies to manage erosion, sea-level rise & other environmental pressures.

The City emphasises that this planning is about future preparedness rather than restricting access. The CHRMAP process does not involve closing beaches or removing 4WD access points.

Community Encouraged to Participate

With coastal planning work progressing, residents are encouraged to review the available information and take part in the consultation opportunities. Community drop-in sessions and online resources provide a chance for locals to ask questions, understand the planning process & share their views.

Details about upcoming sessions & background information can be found via the City of Mandurah’s website and the Mandurah Matters project page:

Access to Remain During Carpark Upgrades

The City has also confirmed that upcoming upgrades to the Tim’s Thicket Road carpark will not affect beach access. Works are planned to improve safety & functionality while ensuring the community can continue to enjoy the area throughout the project.

Appreciation for Community Engagement

Local representatives have expressed gratitude to the residents who raised concerns and sought clarification. Their engagement helps ensure that emerging issues are addressed promptly and that the community remains informed.

Thanks have also been extended to councillors who have shared accurate information and helped dispel confusion, contributing to a more transparent & connected community conversation.
