Mandurah Welcomes Heroes on Wheels

Mandurah Welcomes Heroes on Wheels

Today, almost 150 cyclists will triumphantly arrive in Mandurah after completing a grueling 700km ride through the scenic landscapes of Western Australia, all in support of youth mental health.

In a spectacular display of endurance, camaraderie, and unwavering commitment to a cause that touches the heart of communities across Western Australia, nearly 150 cyclists are set to make a grand entrance into Mandurah today. This marks a significant milestone in the annual Hawaiian Ride for Youth, a 700km charity bike ride that began in Albany and weaves its way through the picturesque landscapes of Western Australia, culminating in Perth. But this journey is more than just a test of physical stamina; it's a powerful movement for youth mental health awareness.

A Ride with a Purpose

Since its inception in 2003, the Hawaiian Ride for Youth has become a beacon of hope, raising over $32 million for Youth Focus, an organization dedicated to supporting young Western Australians' mental health. Throughout their journey, riders stop at 15 schools, engaging with students, sharing stories of resilience, and spreading awareness about mental health support. Accompanied by Youth Focus clinicians, these interactions bridge generations and foster a sense of community and understanding that is truly inspiring.

An Unforgettable Experience

Imagine the sight: a diverse group of cyclists, from the awe-inspiring 83-year-old veteran pedaling with determination, to the 26 spirited young riders under the age of 30, all united by a common goal. As they cycle into Mandurah, the air buzzes with excitement and admiration from the community, cheering them on for the final leg of their journey to Perth.

Community at Its Best

Youth Focus CEO Derry Simpson eloquently captures the essence of this event, "The Hawaiian Ride for Youth has become part of the fabric of WA...At its heart, it's about bringing community together, raising awareness about youth mental health support, and ultimately creating a Western Australia where our young people can thrive." This ride is a testament to the power of community support, making a tangible difference in the lives of young people by ensuring they have access to vital support services within their own communities, especially in regional areas where it's needed most.

Join the Movement

As the ride approaches its grand finale at UWA's Riley Oval on Saturday, March 23, the spirit of generosity and hope is palpable. This event is not just for cyclists or sports enthusiasts; it's a call to action for anyone who believes in the power of community and the importance of mental health awareness. To be a part of this incredible journey, whether through cheering on the sidelines or contributing to the cause, is to be part of something much larger than ourselves.
